The 63 years old native of Detroit, proved that she's still a diva in the music industry by delivering a stunning performance at the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa.The legendary vocalist from Motown appeared to the stage after her five-piece band and her two back-up singers, in place as the audience only heard her voice at first singing her 1980's solo hit song " I'm Coming Out".
She came on stage wearing a sexy reddish gown to finish her song and then move into her first Supremes hit of the night "My World Is Empty Without You".
From all angle of the stage, Diana Ross sounded real good and was not at all overpowered by her band.
The song "Where Did Our Love go", turned into a giant sing-along.
She then asked the crowd to sing with her " My World Is Empty Without You" but the audience needed no prompting on this tune.
You guys are too young to remember this song said Diana about the tune from the vocal group that she led from 1961 to 1970. In what seemed like long a long medley, she sang "Baby Love" a 1964 hit from the Supremes.
"Stop In The Name Of Love"was performed with Diana sticking her right hand out , bringing to life old choreography from the early 1960's.
The audience was seated in the orchestra and sat down for the slow song she did, "Touch Me In The Morning. During the song, the lightning technician splashed the stage with red and blue. The audience applauded as she finished the song by doing a spin wit her arms extended.
"Love Hangover" forced the crowd to rise and start dancing again. The very up-tempo beat of the song featured Ross's guitarist and bassist moving to center stage , that allowed her to sneak out for the first of four outfit changes of the night. Each one as glamorous as the next.
During the first half of Ross' show, the weakest song "Its My House", preceded one of the best of the night, another Supremes hit"Love Child" that came out in 1968. The band did an excellent job spicing it up with a Latin groove.
Her percussionist's solo impressed her enough to cause her to move back to where he stood.
She went on to sing a few more songs from her old hits like "Upside Down ", "Ease on down the Road" from the original sound track of the "Wiz" before she settled down to do a ballad in front of what look like a star-studded back-drop. A song by the late vocalist Billy Holiday "Don't Explain" was also included.
Diana Ross didn't sing any of a new releases from her first CD in eight years until her encore when she sang the single " I Love You (That's All That's Really matters)", and dedicated it to the crowd.
Her performance was great and, you could tell that she was enjoying every moment of it. The repertoire of songs is enough to keep her at the top of the ladder for many years to come. If she can continue on to fight her demons, her concert will always be sold out. Pop songs will never die and Diana Ross showed that.
